Siemens Presents the Summer of Dreams 06-18-2013

As a platinum sponsor of the Summer of Dreams program, Siemens is helping to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education to homeless students in Central Florida.

In partnership with Orlando Science Center, Siemens engineers volunteered to lead an interactive, hands-on Discovery Lab that featured in-depth design challenges based on engineering principles. One of the projects taught participants how to build a load-bearing bridge.

Now in its third year, Summer of Dreams was founded to fill an unmet need for food, shelter and supervision for homeless students when school is not in session. The program provides two meals a day, activities, school supplies, academic and STEM-enrichment, and mentoring — as well as financial counseling for parents, offered by founding sponsor Fifth Third Bank.

Join our Special Event Volunteer Team!

Individuals who are 21 years of age or older, who are unable to commit to the minimum volunteer requirement of 6 months for at least 6 hours a month, can now join our Special Events Volunteer Team. Special event volunteers will be notified every time the Orlando Science Center is hosting an event that requires volunteer assistance. Special event volunteers then have the opportunity to sign up to assist with the events that fit into their schedules.

Each member of the Special Events Volunteer Team will earn two complimentary passes for admission to the Orlando Science Center as a thank you for their contribution to the organization. In addition, volunteers who assist with 10 or more events during a 12 month period will also earn a free family membership!

Members and their little ones were unleashed and rockin' at this past Member Monday!

Guests had Level 2 all to themselves an hour before we opened to the public. The fun included play in our newest traveling exhibits Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog and Blue Man Group — Making Waves.

Adult swim is that time in the evening when kids are ordered out of the pool so that grown-ups can have it all to themselves.

Swap out the pool for Orlando Science Center and you get SCIENCE NIGHT LIVE!

This past Saturday night, adults enjoyed U2 3D, the Crosby Observatory, exhibits on all four floors, trivia contests, live science demos, and a presentation by UCF professor Dr. Scott Warfield.

Blue Man Group Visit Orlando Science Center

The Blue Men from Blue Man Group at Universal Orlando® Resort interacted with guests at Orlando Science Center's newest traveling exhibit, Blue Man Group—Making Waves, on Sunday, June 2.

The Blue Men played the Tube Phones, Slide-u-lum and Belly Drum as they engaged with museum visitors. The exhibit, which combines science with art, is an exploration of sound and provides an opportunity to play together while discovering the fun of music.

The exhibit will be at Orlando Science Center through the summer and you can experience the show at Universal Orlando Resort nightly.

On Thursday, May 23, we held our preschool graduations for our future scientists, teachers and doctors in the Digital Adventure Theater: A National Geographic Experience.

In front of a packed audience that included preschoolers' family and friends, the little learners sang and danced to celebrate all that they have learned.

The preschool and education staff thank their students and families for another fantastic school year!
