This position serves as facilitators throughout the Orlando Science Center, performing science pop-up activities for guests and inspiring science learning in our exhibit halls. Volunteers on this team will work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests and are integral in creating positive learning experiences for our community!

Essential Functions:

• Greets all visitors with a friendly and professional attitude
• Maintains a positive image and welcoming energy
• Assists with exhibit hall facilitation, supply prep, and conducting pop-up science activities
• Opportunity to volunteer during special events and offsites

Minimum qualifications:  

• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse visitor base
• Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities and organization
• Experience working with the general public

Time Commitment:

• Adult volunteers must commit to at least 4 months of service for a minimum of 6 hours per month
• Adult Visitor Experience Volunteer shifts are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
• Available shifts taking place between 10:00am-1:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm
• Volunteers pick their scheduled dates monthly

Requirements: 

• All volunteers must complete a background check before joining the team
• All volunteers must commit to completing an orientation, necessary trainings, and subsequent meetings prior to their start of service
• Volunteers will need to commit to ONE of the following orientation and training dates:
  Training Option 1: Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 10:00am-1:00pm
  Training Option 2: Friday, October 2, 2026, from 1:00pm-4:00pm

Environmental Education Volunteers assist keeper and facilitator staff in the daily operations within all areas of the Life exhibit with a focus on animal exhibit interpretation.  This includes conservation education programs, tours, field trips, camp groups, general interpretation and some exhibit cleaning.

Essential Functions:

• Provide camps, field trips and OSC guests with exhibit guidelines and conservation interpretation.
• Presents formal and informal public programs to diverse groups on a microphone.
• Ensures guest interactions with animals are conducted in a safe manner.
• Represents the Orlando Science Center in a professional manner with all guests and staff.
• Exhibit cleaning such as scrubbing, sweeping, hosing, and wiping down glass
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be comfortable and willing to work around water, in warm temperatures and in close proximity to live animals
• Must be comfortable with public speaking

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with conservation education
• Experience speaking in front of large, diverse audiences.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to remain in a stationary position and be on feet for extended periods of time.
• Moves throughout the museum.
• Ascends/descends stairs throughout the museum.
• Observes and reacts to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Occasionally works in outdoor environments.
• Frequently works in indoor environments.
• Kneeling and Crouching
• Must be comfortable around water.
• Must be comfortable working on slippery, wet and uneven surfaces.
