Orlando Science Center is thrilled to host a very special guest speaker all the way all the way from the Smithsonian Institute National Museum of Natural History! For one night only, guests 21 and up are invited to join Amy Bolton, the Lead Educator for Deep Time at The Smithsonian as she presents Lessons From the Field: An Educator’s Journey Distilling Paleontology For Museum Audiences. Plus, enjoy an evening of hands-on workshops, prehistoric experiments, and explore the Science Center without the kids!
Join Amy Bolton as she explores her experiences working with paleontologists that have helped her turn complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging learning moments for guests of the brand-new David H. Koch Hall of Fossils – Deep Time exhibit at The Smithsonian. The new exhibit explores our planet’s 4.6 billion years of history, and Amy’s team worked to bring deep time to life in an easily digestible way for anyone that explores the exhibit.
Through fossil-hunting expeditions charting ecosystems, changing through time to comparing microscopic scans of fossil gingko to chart future climate trends, Amy will share the inside scoop on how she has blended rigorous and open-ended scientific discovery with the similarly open-ended process of informal Museum exploration.
“Awe, wonder, curiosity and surprise. When I walk through the National Museum of Natural History’s exhibitions, these are the reactions I see in the visitors. It gives me hope because my job is to design and develop activities where almost anyone visiting the Museum can learn something new about the natural world. So I use that enthusiasm to ignite a fun, engaging learning opportunity.” – Amy Bolton on her work at The Smithsonian.
