May
Aerospace Science Month
The Orlando Science Center celebrates Astronomy and Flight this May with our NASA speakers, Richard Johanboeke and Anne Micklos. On weekends after May 5, we’ll have space themed experiments in Dr. Dare’s Lab. During the week, explore how planetary bodies move through space using your own body with Kinesthetic Astronomy at the Science on a Sphere.
Saturday, May 18, 1:00 p.m.
Join us when we host Richard Johanboeke as he discusses the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover and its recent findings.
Johanboeke is a contracting officer at NASA. He develops contracts with architect and engineering companies in conjunction with the development of the Space Launch System: an advanced heavy-lift launch vehicle that will provide an entirely new means for human exploration beyond Earth's orbit. He has supported launch efforts during the Shuttle Program and Mars Science Laboratory “Curiosity,” modernizing Launch Complex 39B and the “Mice in Space” program to the International Space Station.
Saturday, May 25, 1:00 p.m.
Join us when we host Ann Micklos as she presents “Our Orlando Skies from a NASA Point of View.” Her presentation will examine night sky photographs taken from space during various NASA missions.
Micklos is currently a Mission Assurance Engineer on NASA’s Launch Services Program. The program provides space transportation utilizing Delta II and IV as well as Atlas V, Pegasus and Falcon 9 rockets for NASA’s scientific payloads, such as the Mars Rover and Radiation Belt Storm Probes. During the Space Shuttle Program, Micklos had worked in, on and around the Space Shuttles during ferry flights, Orbiter processing, launches and landings for 110 Space Shuttle missions at the Kennedy Space Center.
