Science Center Getting Full Replacement of A/C System By Spring 2010
Get ready to chill out because the Orlando Science Center is in the process of fully replacing our air conditioning system. As you may know, we have had our share of challenges over the years with the old system. We are grateful to the support of many friends and partners who have helped make this replacement possible, especially the City of Orlando, Orange County, the Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs Advisory Council and Irvine Mechanical.
This new system will be completed and installed by Spring 2010 - just in time for summer. It will be more energy efficient and is the first step in our journey to becoming a "green" building. Other initiatives will include retrofitting the interior lighting, implementing a recycling program and installing solar panels on our roof (thanks to Orlando Utilities Commission, the Darden Restaurants Foundation/Darden Environmental Trust and Azur Solar).
These modifications will make the Science Center a working example of "green" technology in our community. Our operations will become a living exhibit that will help educate visitors about the real world applications and benefits of renewable energy and energy conservation. We'll be updating you frequently on this website as we make progress with the "Green Building Project" so please visit often for news. In the meantime, please know that the Science Center is working hard to be the "coolest" place in town...in more ways than one.
