Summer Camp Coordinator

Seasonal position. Responsible for the operations and implementation of OSC Summer Camp. Directly responsible for overseeing and maintaining quality control of all camp programming, and demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. The Coordinator provides administrative and operational support to the Education Manager, with emphasis on daily operations and scheduling, to ensure quality control.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for daily coordinating of instructors, counselors, and youth volunteers.
  • Responsible for supervising campers to and from daily activities, ensuring that all campers are accounted for at ALL times.
  • Responsible for check in and check-out procedures, including early care and/or late care.
  • Responsible for parent communication to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Responsible for implementing safety rules and compliance to the OSC camper behavior policy.
  • Able to apply problem solving and demonstrate good judgment to complete project tasks.
  • Able to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
  • Demonstrates commitment to OSC’s vision, mission and values.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates should hold a bachelors degree in education, science, or related field.
  • Candidates will have to pass a background check and be able to sign an Affidavit of Good Moral Character (as per the ACA).

Preferred Skills:

The candidate should have experience in operations or management, teaching either informally or in a classroom, and demonstrate exemplary customer service skills. Strong organizational skills and time management is desirable. Candidate should accept, respect and be responsive to diversity. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for working with children, and be able to commit to the full camp season (May 30th-August 19th) in addition to training and preparation during April and May.  First aid certification is desirable.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand for extended periods. These positions require outdoor walking during the summer months, so assistants will be exposed to the summer heat and humidity throughout the course of the day.


 

 

Summer Camp Counselor

Seasonal position. Performs duties relating to the operational aspects of weekly Summer Camp sessions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Responsible for supervising campers to and from daily activities, ensuring that all campers are accounted for at ALL times.
  • Responsible for check in and check out procedures, including early care and/or late care.
  • Responsible for actively engaging the campers to ensure an enjoyable experience.
  • Responsible for learning and leading camp activities and songs.
  • Responsible for implementing safety rules and compliance to the OSC camper behavior policy.
  • Demonstrates commitment to OSC’s vision, mission and values.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High School (Seniors preferred) or above.
  • Qualified candidates should be able to sign an affidavit of good moral Character (as per ACA).
  • Candidates will have to pass a background check and be able to sign an Affidavit of Good Moral Character (as per the ACA).

Experience working with children and a background in science preferred. Candidate should accept, respect and be responsive to diversity. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for working with children, and commit to Monday-Friday for the duration of the camp season (May 30th -August 19th).

Summer Camp Instructor

Seasonal position. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: Engaging and educating summer campers about various sciences with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. The Instructor will deliver educational content in one or more of the following ways: formal classroom instruction, hands-on activities and demonstrations on and off museum grounds, and live shows. This position requires individuals who are comfortable communicating to children of all ages and delivering science instruction in an informal setting. Qualified applicants will demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Instructors will be expected to follow the curriculum provided and demonstrate proficiency in communicating science concepts to young audiences. Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
