Orlando Science Center DIY SlimeHomemade slime is one of our favorite sensory activities at Orlando Science Center so we wanted to share a simple recipe with you!

Slime can be used year-round during different celebrations if you add different colors, beads, confetti, or even silly spheres to enhance your activity. Be sure to ask your children critical thinking questions while they are playing to maximize their experience. Ask cause and effect questions like “what would happen if we…?”

Let’s get started!

Ingredients
  • 2 bowls
  • Borax powder (found in laundry detergent aisle)
  • School Glue
  • Water
  • Food coloring or sparkly additives are optional
  • Measuring cup
  • Something to stir with

Directions

In bowl #1:

  1. Add ½ cup of Elmers or school glue (White or clear will work)
  2. Add a few drops of food coloring or sparkles, if desired
  3. Stir well
  4. Add ½ cup of water
  5. Stir well

In bowl #2

  1. Add ½ cup of water
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of borax powder
  3. Stir until most of the borax has dissolved
  4. Add the glue mixture in bowl #1 to the borax solution in bowl #2
  5. Make sure to stir as you pour
  6. Drain off any excess liquid and knead the slime with dry hands until it feels more like flubber than sticky slime
  7. Keep your slime in a sealed plastic bag to keep it from drying out

Enjoy!
