Internships

Orlando Science Center’s internship program is designed to provide college students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain realistic, in-depth exposure to the many careers at the Science Center.

Interns can expect to expand their professional skills while gaining valuable experience and becoming part of the Science Center’s bigger mission. Interns at Orlando Science Center receive a stipend based on the successful completion of their internship and have the opportunity to receive benefits such as school credit and a free annual membership. 

Applications are accepted for the fall, spring, and summer semesters and available internships vary by semester.

Current Openings

The Orlando Science Center Meetings and Events department produces over 150 events a year ranging from weddings to corporate functions and fundraisers for Orlando Science Center. We have over 200,000 sq. ft. of exhibit and event space that is available for private events. The goal of the Meetings and Events department is to provide outstanding customer service while building excellent relationships with our clients and vendors. Our event interns work alongside our coordinators to produce all types of events.

Essential Functions:

  • Written, oral, visual, and electronic (W.O.V.E.) communicating with clients and vendors.
  • Conducting site visits with clients and vendors
  • Preparing event contracts, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Assisting on-site during events, including vendor load-in and load-out, décor set up and breakdown, and event logistics.
  • Collecting vendor payments.
  • Reviewing and updating Orlando Science Center’s photo library.

Education:

Candidates currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Hospitality/Event Management preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and organization.
  • A positive, cheerful attitude
  • Ability to work well with staff and guests
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Willingness to learn
  • Readiness to be flexible and adaptable
  • Working knowledge of basic computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Office and Google).

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Pay:

A $500 stipend will be provided upon the successful completion of this internship.

Expected Hours of Work:  

An individual schedule will be made upon start date of internship.

  • Intern will serve one office day each week and 1-2 events each week, most events occur during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.  
  • ust commit to one full semester that runs concurrently with the school year, spanning from the week of May 6, 2024 to the week of August 5, 2024.
  • Intern should be available most of the following dates for our events from 3:00 pm – 12:00 am (hours will vary): May 9, 17, 18, 23, 25; June 6, 15, 21, 22; July 13, 14, 16, 18, 25; August 2.  
  • Must attend an Orlando Science Center orientation (TBD).
