What they might not realize is that we’re also trusted partners to the school systems of the areas we serve. Our educational programs supplement traditional classroom learning with a valuable informal education and serve to build on the foundation of knowledge kids gain in school. Most importantly, they further the mission of increasing competency in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competency.

Nicholas Buoniconti is a junior at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orange County, Fla. Nicholas has a passion for science and the preservation of the earth and all its natural resources. For the past two years, Nicholas has had the privilege of conducting research at the NanoScience Technology Center at the University of Central Florida.
He has already received a Grand Prize award and cash prize at Dr. Nelson Ying Expo earlier this spring, and went on to receive third place at the State Science and Engineering Fair. Due to his success at these fairs, Nicholas looks forward to future appearances at international science fairs in Houston, Pittsburgh and New York. He also plans to continue his science research into his collegiate career.
In addition to his rigorous course schedule of honors and AP classes and research, Nicholas is a member of his school’s varsity basketball team, which achieved the title of state runner-up this year. Nicholas is also a member of his school’s Pre-Med Club, National Honors Society and Latin Honors Society. Nicholas enjoys the outdoors and spends time in the summer in the North Carolina mountains.
Nicholas’ research focuses on trying to radically improve the efficiency and cost of nanotransistors and nanodevices. In today’s green society, his research can cut wasted raw materials, increase device efficiency and conserve energy used to power these devices. It is Nicholas’ hope that someday his research can be utilized in every electronic device, providing the opportunity to conserve energy, cut costs and optimize our precious resources.
Nicholas looks forward to this opportunity to compete and is excited to share his informative research with other scientists.
