Live from Orlando, It’s Science Night Live!

Musical Guest "TWITCHY" Headlines Adults-Only Evening at Science Center
Saturday, June 7, 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 2, 2014) — Come see how grown-ups do Orlando Science Center when it’s reserved strictly for adults at Science Night Live on Saturday, June 7 from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. Guests can enjoy a concert by live band TWITCHY; experience the return of laser light shows in the Dr. Phillips CineDome; discover one of this summer’s new traveling exhibits "Sportsology"; view stars and planets from the Crosby Observatory; conduct lab experiments in Dr. Dare’s Laboratory; delight in food and adult beverages available for purchase; and so much more!

The summer installment of SNL is highlighted by two live performances from TWITCHY: a rock 'n' roll band led by faculty of the Florida Institute of Technology including President Anthony Catanese and former NASA Astronaut Captain Winston Scott. TWITCHY is an acronym for the names of its original faculty players. These professors-turned-performers will play sets at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. followed by question-and-answer sessions.

"Come Together" after "A Hard Day’s Night" and experience the return of laser light shows in the Dr. Phillips CineDome featuring The Beatles! Light and sound will merge for an unforgettable rock "n" roll experience backed by 28,000 watts of stereo sound and mesmerizing laser effects. "One and one and one is three," and it’s also the number of showtimes to choose from: 8:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

"Sportsology" is a new traveling exhibit exploring the science of sports. Composed of a series of hands-on challenges, "Sportsology" allows visitors to test their athletic abilities while learning how their bodies work. Discover the speed and physics of your fast ball, whether you can jump as high as a pro basketball player and even your reaction time.

Visitors can examine the night sky in the Crosby Observatory through the use of the 10-inch refractor telescope —the largest of its kind in the state available to the public. View moons, planets and deep sky objects such as galaxies, nebulas and more. In addition, enjoy an unobstructed view of the downtown Orlando skyline from the sixth-floor terrace. This activity is weather-permitting.

Learn the fundamentals of soldering — how to preheat and tin your iron, make a good solder joint and desolder cleanly — in Dr. Dare’s Laboratory. And get your competitive juices flowing with some bar-style science trivia. Test your science knowledge in the categories of everyday elements, famous scientists and sports to win prizes.

The rest of the Science Center is available for exploration that evening. Indulge in all four floors of exhibits including "NatureWorks"; "Science Park"; "Engineer It!"; "Our Planet, Our Universe"; and "DinoDigs." And enjoy scrumptious foods and adult beverages available for purchase courtesy of Millenia Catering.

Experience Science Night Live at the special evening rate of $15. Admission includes TWITCHY in concert; one laser light show featuring The Beatles; all four floors of exhibits, live programming and presentations; and night-time viewing in the Crosby Observatory. Parking is free in the Science Center parking garage. Members can enjoy Science Night Live at no charge.

Join us and see how grown-ups do Orlando Science Center! Must be 21 and older. While the Science Center has a lot to offer kids and families during regular hours, Science Night Live is exclusively for grown-ups. Dress code is casual attire.
