Development Manager

Full time benefited position. Working with the Vice President of Development, the Development Manager will support comprehensive/capital, major, planned and annual donor campaigns through a comprehensive strategy of research, communications, proposal development and special events to increase contributed revenue. Serve as a member of the Science Center Development Team to build sustainable relationships and continued support for the Orlando Science Center.

Job Duties:

  • Research, develop and execute components of the Development Department’s comprehensive strategy to increase and sustain individual, corporate and foundation giving and build long-term organizational and donor relationships.
  • Support comprehensive/capital, annual and planned gift campaign activities.
  • Support individual giving through direct mail, email and ongoing donor stewardship.
  • Serve as the lead to maintain and update donor database, issue donor and campaign reports and work with Directors of Development and Vice President of Development to capture donor relationship data after visits/calls.
  • Participate in special events, comprehensive/capital campaign and other fundraising activities.
  • Conduct ongoing donor prospect research and support donor cultivation and stewardship activities.
  • Develop compelling proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations in collaboration with the Vice President and Directors of Individual Giving and Corporation / Foundation Relations. Ensure proper presentation of materials and other deliverables as necessary.
  • Actively pursue opportunities for professional development to increase understanding of best practices in fundraising.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to event logistics and administrative tasks.

Education and Skills:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree; excellent research and writing skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment and respond to changing needs.

Experience:
Minimum of two to four years of fundraising experience in a nonprofit environment. Knowledge of prospect research, proposal writing and gift reporting. Can build relationships with donors across a continuum of giving. Knowledge of philanthropy and involvement in the local community. Strong communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills a must. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and donor database systems, ideally Donor Perfect Online.

 

 

Early Childhood Educator

Part time position. A cheerful, animated, thoughtful and engaging individual is needed to provide fun and quality educational programming for the Science Center’s early learners. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: Engaging and educating families, school groups, campers and teachers about various sciences and early childhood topics with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. The Early Childhood Educator will deliver educational content in one or more of the following ways: classroom instruction on and off museum grounds, large capacity auditorium programming on and off museum grounds, and floor demonstrations. Educators will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in the sciences taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for teaching early childhood workshops, discovery labs, offsite programs, camps, and some weekend events.
  • Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging children, families and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • This position requires individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of audiences of all sizes and delivering basic science instruction to guests of all ages.  
  • Ensure age appropriateness in all programs and alignment with learning and developmental standards.
  • Maintains a safe and secure environment for guests and staff.
  • Keeps current in science and education related to OSC’s content and exhibits.
  • Qualified applicants will demonstrate a willingness to learn.  
  • Availability on Saturdays is required.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with children and guests. Qualified candidates should be degree seeking or hold a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, education, science, psychology, or museum studies preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. Experience working with children or teaching children (age 7 and under) either informally or in a classroom setting.

Preferred Skills:

  • Course work in the field of Early Childhood or Education.
  • Experience developing curriculum for informal education facilities. 
  • Experience in the performing arts or theater experience. 
  • Minimum of one year experience teaching and delivering educational programming in an informal setting (child care facility, museum, zoo).


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 30lbs. 

  

 

Animal Husbandry Technician

Part time position. Provide the daily care of all OSC animals, and the maintenance and repair of animal support systems within the Nature Works exhibition; present science programming to guests within the NatureWorks exhibit. Experience with fish and reptiles is required. Experience with amphibians and invertebrate species is beneficial. This position requires availability Sunday through Thursday between 8:30 am and 5pm and will offer 15-20 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare and feed daily ration of frozen, fresh and dry commercial foods.
  • Maintenance of insect colonies for feeding of animals.
  • Maintain exhibit aesthetics to departmental standards through regular cleaning of habitats and windows, and removing debris. Present public programs to diverse groups.
  • Participate in departmental and special events both at the science center and off property.
  • Assist in renovating exhibits to incorporate new filters, pumps, lighting, etc., and to rebuild habitats when needed.
  • Must represent the Orlando Science Center in a professional manner with all guests and staff.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  Two-year degree in natural sciences, ecology, natural resources management, or a related field or equivalent education plus experience.

The equivalent of one year experience in a zoo, aquarium, museum, park or a similar facility including performing, preparing or coordinating interpretive educational programming.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 50lbs.
  • Able to safely work from a ladder or lift.


Preferred Skils:

  • Experience with veterinary/medical care.
  • Snorkeling or SCUBA diving experience

 

 

Maintenance Technician

Part time position. Responsible for overall maintenance and repair of the facility. Contributing daily to the best possible visitor experience for all OSC guests.

Duties/responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the maintenance team to identify problems and repair (in a timely manner) all mechanical, plumbing, electrical and facility components.
  • Perform thorough inspections of all facilities areas for proper function on a daily basis
  • Follow the PM (Preventive Maintenance) program schedule according to the Facilities management plan.
  • Report all Work Orders and maintenance assignments to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist in set up, takedown and loading permanent exhibits.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment by demonstrating a thorough knowledge of tools and equipment; follow proper safety procedures associated with each tool / equipment / material.


Education or Certifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience: Three to five years relevant experience.

Required Skills: Some plumbing, electrical and construction.

Special Conditions (Physical Requirements, travel, work hours): up to 30 hour work week, on call for building alarms, Must be able climb, bind, push and lift 70 lbs. and up.

 

 

Science Education Presenter II

Part time position. Must have availability to work a minimum of 3 days Mon. Tues. Thur. Fri. Sat. Sun. Between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Engaging both school groups and general public about various sciences with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting.
  • Deliver educational science content primarily in a large-scale auditorium setting.
  • Presenter II will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in the sciences and safety protocols taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills.

EDUCATION:
Degree seeking or hold a bachelor’s degree in education, science, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:
The candidate should have experience speaking in front of a large audience or teaching either informally or in a classroom setting. Good written and oral communication is required. Customer service experience is desirable.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
A valid Florida driver’s license is required.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience performing improv and/or theater background is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sound boards and light boards within a theater environment is desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to stand for long periods and be able to lift 30 lbs.

 

 

Preschool Teacher

Full time benefited position. Responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of preschool (3 – 5 yr) children, planning and executing the Early Childhood education program in accordance with the goals, objectives and standards set forth by the Orlando Science Center Preschool in alliance with Early Childhood developmentally appropriate practices, FL Department of Children and Families and “Creative Curriculum” and Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK). Instruct children (3 – 5 yr) in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful individuals related to their peer group, environment and community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A degree (Associate or above) in Child Development, Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten, Primary, or Elementary Education preferred. Exceptional Student Education, Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC – formally National CDA), Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC or formally CDAE), certified National CDA or certified CDAE accepted.
  • FL Department of Children and Families Staff credential – VPK
  • Clear Level 2 Background screening.  May not be in classroom until this is established.
  • FL Department of Children and Families 45 hours Child Care training
  • FL Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK) Education Standards and Emergent Literacy for VPK
  • CPR and Basic First Aid Certification
  • Work experience with children 0 – 8 years old.

Preschool Assistant

Part Time Position. Responsible for assisting Preschool classroom teachers with general supervision and management of a class of preschool (3 – 5 yr) children. Assisting in the execution of the Early Childhood education program in accordance with the goals, objectives and standards set forth by the Orlando Science Center Preschool, along with Early Childhood developmentally appropriate practices, FL Department of Children and Families guidelines and “Creative Curriculum”. Support children (3 – 5 yr) in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful individuals related to their peer group, environment and community.

Essential Job Functions: Assist classroom teachers with daily scheduled lessons, units, themes, activities and projects. Work with children through interactions with activities and materials. Assist classroom teachers with organization and direction of activities/materials to promote physical, mental, social development such as games, art, music/movement and story telling. Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor development and safety. Assist substitute classroom teachers with maintaining daily schedule that includes weekly lesson plans, activities and materials needed to fulfill goals and objectives. Be able to work on a consistent basis and fulfill scheduling requirements. Completion of the 10th grade.

 

 

Birthday Party Host

Part time position, weekends required Host and facilitate the party including disbursement of cake, ice cream and beverage, educational programming, science make and take project and general clean up. Have a full understanding of birthday party themes, and the educational component including the science content. Supervise assistants and volunteers working in Birthday Parties to include delegation of responsibilities to assist with the parties, and general customer service related to the birthday parties. Accountable for completion of the financial data sheet for each party and related paper work. Weekly inventory of paper products and additional supplies including a report (if needed) to the Birthday Coordinator. Be able to work on a consistent basis and fulfill scheduling requirements. Completion of the 10th grade, H.S. or Bachelors Degree preferred

 

 

Movie Operator

Part time position. Responsible for operating CineDome and the Digital Adventure Theater automation system, presenting shows and assisting visitors in and out of the CineDome and the Digital Adventure Theatre, including, but not limited to, taking tickets, answering questions, and light administrative work. High School Graduate or equivalent, some college preferred. Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time.

 

 

Educator

Part time position.   • Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging students and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Guest Services Representative

Part time position. Representatives perform all ticket transactions for the Center as well as help visitors with directions and information about OSC and surrounding areas. Additionally, Guest Services Representatives actively sell and maintain all OSC memberships.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High School
  • Guest Services, Cash Handling, and Computer Experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Will need to stand for long periods of times. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

 

 

Facilitator

Part time position. Must have availability to work a minimum of 3 days. With weekend availability preferred.

Essential Job Functions: Passionately embrace and communicate the mission of OSC ‘Inspire Science Learning for Life’ to science center guests.  This position requires individuals with exemplary guest service skills. Facilitate exhibit halls by answering questions, narrating on the microphone, leading activities and being interactive and engaging. This position will be expected to effectively communicate science concepts and topics through science demonstrations and activities.

EDUCATION: Two year degree in education, science, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE: The candidate should be comfortable approaching guests and speaking in front of a large audience.  Strong communication skills are required.  Hospitality or customer service experience is desirable.

REQUIRED SKILLS: A valid Florida driver’s license is required

PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience working in museums or in an informal education setting is preferred. Experience performing Improv and/or theater background is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand for long periods and be able to lift 30 lbs.
