Special Events on Saturday, September 20

Yo ho ho, little buccaneers! KidsTown is celebrating international talk like a pirate day and will be hosting special activities. Grab your boots, your hat, waistcoats and trousers and join us on the fun! Make your own eye patch, search for treasure, enjoy pirate stories, and meet a pirate (at scheduled times).

The big celebration will be on Saturday, September 20, which is also the opening day of our new exhibit - Bats. There will be black powder demonstrations at the top of every hour. Plus musical sea shanties, Pirate tales, and special giveaways and prizes thanks to Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf, Pirate Dinner Adventure Theatre, Black Sparrow Pirate Adventures, and St. Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum.

Thank you to all the crews who make this event possible: Arrr Ink., Brothers of the Coast, and Costumers with a Cause.

Walmart Foundation $5 Day was once again a huge success. Visitors of all ages engaged in an inspiring and educational adventure through the Science Center for only $5!

Guests were able to experience this summer’s traveling exhibits "Sportsology" and "Curious George: Let’s Get Curious!", as well as watching things blow up in the live "KaBoom!" show.

None of this would have been possible without the Walmart Foundation’s constant support. Thank you to all those who volunteered and participated!

One small step for man; one giant leap for science!

For the 22nd straight year, Track Shack's Celebration of Running 5k presented by Florida Hospital benefited Orlando Science Center. More than 2,400 runners woke up early and ran 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) to raise money for science education programs at the Science Center.

Race through the photos and remember that it's never too early to start training for next year!

Local Community Cheers Orlando Science Center and Orlando Chamber of Commerce for its Commitment to Youth and Entrepreneurship

Program Launches this Fall at Orlando Science Center

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 11, 2014) — The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), Orlando Science Center and Orlando Inc. (Orlando Chamber of Commerce) announce plans to launch the YEA! program this fall.

YEA! is a groundbreaking educational program that takes students in grades six through 12 through the process of starting and running a real business. Students work closely with local business leaders to cultivate and research business ideas, write a business plan, pitch their plan to a panel of investors (think "Shark Tank" meets "The Apprentice" meets "American Idol"), obtain funding, develop their brand, participate in a trade show at the end of the year, and actually launch their enterprise. Through the YEA! program, kids 11 to 18 years old start as students and graduate as CEOs. They learn to make a job — not just take a job.
