Motivating students to stretch the capacity of their unlimited imagination, Orlando Science Center challenges students to transform ordinary and found objects into an artistic kinetic sculpture. Awards will be given based on the complexity of motion, best use of found materials, mechanical innovation, and artistic expression.
Please Note: Eldest participant in team determines division.

Dear Participants,The Orlando Science Center invites you to participate in Kinetic Challenge, a science competition geared to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Kinetic Challenge allows your students to use their creativity and science knowledge to win money for their science class or club! This competition fosters teamwork and hands-on learning, while motivating students to stretch the capacity of their imaginations by transforming ordinary and found objects into a kinetic sculpture. Kinetic Challenge focuses on Florida Next Generation Sunshine State and Common Core Standards including energy, force and motion and the nature of science.
Please share this opportunity with all the science teachers in your school. Specific goals and guidelines for Kinetic Challenge can be downloaded above. Remember that participation in this event is free and there is absolutely no cost to you or the school to register.

Students brought out their inner Wayne Szalinski at the 2014 Kinetic Challenge! Szalinski, of course, was the eccentric inventor from “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” who built Rube Goldberg-inspired contraptions.
While these fifth through eighth graders weren’t creating shrink rays, they were transforming ordinary and found objects into artistic kinetic sculptures. Prizes including $500 for Best in Fair! Congratulations to our winners!
