Spooktacular Science Extravaganza

A fun, safe place to trick or treat for the whole family
Sunday, October 30, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Orlando, FLOctober 21, 2011 - If you are looking for a safe environment for the little ones during the spookiest time of the year, look no further than the Orlando Science Center. Celebrate a family-friendly Halloween event at the Eighth Annual Spooktacular Science Extravaganza on Sunday, October 30. From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., experience activities to captivate the entire family. Come dressed in your ghoulish (or cleverest) costume and roam the hallways in search of candy…and so much more!

Trick or treating will take place on every floor supported by themed activities. Keep an eye on the strange new creatures that emerge from the NatureWorks lagoon and watch out for the giant stilt walker towering over you. Get creative while decorating your own mask, enjoy face-painting or learn makeup tricks with fake scars and bruises or play a round of Bloody Bingo.  Channel your own mad scientist with demonstrations featuring liquid nitrogen and dry ice.

Wander into Science Park and check out the creepy crawly critters in Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World! – an exhibit featuring live insects by the Audubon Nature Institute and Terminix. Enjoy cockroach races, cricket spitting contests and enjoy delectable dishes featuring live bugs! More curious creatures await you in DinoDigs with hissing cockroaches, bearded dragons, scorpions and snakes.  Plus, get your hands dirty by digging through the sand full of treasures.

There’s storytime in KidsTown for the littlest ghosts and goblins, plus peewee pumpkin bowling and a special activity entitled “Peter and the Wolf’s musical madness.” For the film buffs in the group, giant screen adventures unfold in the Dr. Phillips CineDome with the wild weather of “Forces of Nature,” the ancient power of “Mummies,” and breathtaking stunts in “Ultimate Wave: Tahiti.” Also, for those that don’t want to be scared, but want to see someone scary talented, check out local guitar whiz kid Alex Ivanov. He’ll be playing in the Guitar exhibit at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Alex is 16 years old and has shared the stage with Phil Stokes from the Pure Prairie League and Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Since the Spooktacular Science Extravaganza is held inside the Orlando Science Center, trick or treating and themed activities happen rain or shine. The event is included with general admission, which is $12.00 for kids (ages 3-11), $17.00 for adults and free for children 2 & under. Admission is also free to Science Center members.
