This weekend is the 15th Annual Dr. Nelson Ying Science Competition! Every day this week, we'll spotlight one of the five finalists.

We start with Sarah Van Sickle of Brevard County’s Satellite Beach High School. Sarah is a senior and a return competitor having being selected as a finalist last year.

Sarah’s recent accomplishments include: 1st Place Senior Physics Florida State Science Fair, 2013 Senior Physical Best in Show, Brevard Intracoastal Regional Science & Engineering Fair, and 2013 First Place Physics Brevard Intracoastal Regional Science & Engineering Fair. Sarah will also be competing in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Ariz. this May.

Sarah’s favorite subjects include science, math and music. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys playing violin, guitar, piano and alto sax as well as volunteering at the Satellite Beach Library. Sarah also holds club memberships and affiliations with NASA Inspire OLC, Satellite High Academic Team, Business Ethics Team, Math Team, FIRST Robotics Teams, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Harry Potter Club.

Sarah plans on studying engineering at Stanford University in the fall.
