On July 4, our members celebrated our country's birthday at the annual 4th of July Member Celebration!

Decked in patriotic garb, members participated in activities including face painting, a patriotic light show and bubble-making on the terrace. They also made s'mores using a solar oven, launched "Alka-Seltzer rockets," and witnessed what happens when you mix Diet Coke and Mentos (hint: think the-soda-version-of-fireworks)!

On Saturday, June 21, Orlando City Soccer Club’s Carl Woszczynski and the street team were at Orlando Science Center to “kick” in the official first day of summer with giveaways and an inflatable goal to take shots at. On June 21 and June 22, Orlando Science Center hosted the next installment in the Young Maker Workshop series. Kids learned the basics of Arduino programming, using this open-source electronics platform to create interactive projects. By programming an Arduino to perform a number of tasks, they were able to power LED lights and servo motors.

Once a month as Maker Faire Orlando approaches, the Science Center is hosting Young Maker Workshops. The idea is to engage your little one in Maker-inspired activities with local professionals, while children and families work together to build and collaborate.

The Young Maker Workshop series will be offered at the Science Center on select weekends in Dr. Dare’s Lab. No registration is required. These workshops are included with paid admission or membership to the Science Center.

Blow that whistle! Another Safety Week has come and gone at Orlando Science Center but not before families went home with new knowledge on how to keep each other safe.

KidsTown visitors had many opportunities to talk about what to do in case of an emergency as well as had chances to meet our local emergency service men and women. This week of safety was filled with fun activities and crafts designed to teach little ones about how to stay safe at home, outside and on-the-go!

Orlando Science Center Hosts A Bimonthly Series for the Community's Curious at the East End Market

Ed Measom, an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida, will wow you with all you never needed to know about the history of brewing. From the Lager Revolution to the Dark Days of Prohibition, you'll learn how this drink has shaped our civilization. The award-winning home brewer and nationally-ranked beer judge will then get geeky on the science behind flavor and fermentation of beer.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., dive deeper into the science of brewing with beer and food pairings from East End Market's merchants for $20 per person. By the end, you'll know how to identify the six different taste profiles and be able to create your own pairings at home using the ICCC equation.

Register for lecture and/or tasting at www.eastendmkt.com/events-classes. Space is limited for the tasting.
