Most people look at the Science Center as a fun and educational place to go on a Saturday afternoon...
What they might not realize is that we’re also trusted partners to the school systems of the areas we serve. Our educational programs supplement traditional classroom learning with a valuable informal education and serve to build on the foundation of knowledge kids gain in school. Most importantly, they further the mission of increasing competency in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competency.
Our educational programs include:
- Field Trips
- Off-Site Programs
- School Break Camps
- Summer Camps & Academy
- Science Competitions
- Homeschool Programs
- Scout Programs
- And much more
These activities enhance classroom experience and provide students with a different way of looking at science, math and technology.

Orlando Science Center hosted the 17th annual Science Challenge on Saturday, March 21. Presented by Orlando Science Center and Bright House Networks, the Science Challenge encourages excellence in science education plus provides an intermediate event between the county science fairs and the state science fair. It operates under the International Science and Engineering Fair rules. Participants are the first place winners in all science categories for middle and high schools in county science fairs for the nine surrounding counties (Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia).
More than 100 competitors showcased projects and sharpened their presentation skills before a panel of judges that included current and retired engineers, educators and scientists. Competition categories included Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth and Space; Engineering; Environmental Science; Mathematics; and Physics.
The Science Center organizes this event every year to provide bright young minds with an opportunity to better prepare them for the state science fair. This event also offers the public a chance to view this area’s most innovative science projects from our community’s budding scientists. The Science Challenge takes place on multiple floors of the Science Center.
