ORLANDO, FL - (August 28, 2011) – The Walmart Foundation and the Orlando Science Center will host “Walmart $5 Day” at the Orlando Science Center on Sunday, August 28. All guests will enjoy everything that the Science Center has to offer for the significantly discounted price of $5. General admission fees are usually $17 for adults and $12 for kids (ages 3-11). For many, this event provides the opportunity to experience the Science Center for the first time.
“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are dedicated to making an impact in communities where our employees and customers live and work,” said Walmart Market Manager for Central Florida, Rick Tomb. “We are very proud of programs like Walmart $5 Day because we immediately see the result on the faces of the visitors to the Orlando Science Center.”
Guests will have a full day of family fun and discovery, including experiencing an exhibit that’s been rocking crowds all summer long. GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked the World is enjoying its world premiere at the Science Center with a journey through the evolution of the guitar while also examining the science of sound. Guests explore displays of classic guitars, artifacts and activities that pay homage to the guitar as one of the most widely recognized cultural symbols of the day.
In addition, all exhibits, giant screen films and live programs will be available for families to enjoy. They can encounter live swamp critters in NatureWorks or test their meteorology skills in the severe weather center or jump inside the Hurricane Chamber and face 75 mph winds. In between exhibits, experience movies on an enormous eight-story screen within the Dr. Phillips CineDome. Journey to the Middle East with Arabia, an eye-opening film that combines contemporary scenes of everyday life in today’s Saudi Arabia with Hollywood-style recreations of the Arabian past. The film, narrated by Academy Award Winner Helen Mirren, probes the roots of a culture that continues to be of profound complexity and importance. Younger viewers will enjoy Animaloplis - a lighthearted and imaginary look at the animal world. Whether going nose to nose with grazing hippos or eye to eye with dancing bears, audiences will be reminded that nature always has a sense of humor.
“We so appreciate Walmart’s support with this event,” said JoAnn Newman, president and CEO of the Science Center. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to reach out to all our community’s families so they can have a fun day learning together.”
