Central Florida Families Can Enjoy the Science Center, Mission Nutrition 4, Curious George and More for Just $5/Person

Saturday, February 19, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

ORLANDO, FL - (February 14, 2011) - The Orlando Science Center, in partnership with the Walmart Foundation, has announced the next “Walmart $5 Day” will be Saturday, February 19. Thanks to Walmart’s generous support, all guests to the Science Center on February 19 will enjoy exhibits, films and live programs for the significantly discounted price of $5. General admission fees are usually $17 for adults and $12 for kids (ages 3-11).

This year marks the second year for this partnership between the Science Center and the Walmart Foundation. Walmart $5 Day provides admission to all the Science Center’s exhibits, films and programs, including a special day of activities and displays on health and wellness. For many, this event presents the opportunity to experience the Science Center for the first time. Walmart Market Manager for Central Florida Steven Daniel said, “These are the types of community programs we are proud to sponsor for our Central Florida neighbors.”

On February 14, guests will also experience the fourth annual Mission Nutrition featuring the latest in medical technology, nutrition, fitness and even pet health while checking out exhibits, demonstrations and contests. The Science Center will provide an entertaining environment to explore the importance of health and fitness in our daily lives, which includes Your Healer Within - a new exhibit examining the mind/body/spirit connection to healing. Activities include uncovering the pathways of the nervous system involved in such everyday activities as turning a door knob or the spiritual healing found by splashing water and chasing fish without ever getting your hands wet at the virtual pond.

During this day of reduced admission, guests will explore the fossils in DinoDigs, encounter live swamp critters in NatureWorks, experience preschool activities in KidsTown or even swing on over to Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! Based on the familiar characters in H.A. and Margret Rey’s classic stories published by Houghton Mifflin, the new Curious George exhibit inspires young children’s natural curiosity as they explore early science, math and engineering through hands-on interactive play. In between exhibits, spend time in the Dr. Phillips CineDome to see movies on an enormous eight-story screen, including the touching Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees or the thrilling Forces of Nature.

“We are grateful to the Walmart Foundation for their continued support of the Orlando Science Center,” said Science Center President JoAnn Newman. “This event is a wonderful example of how corporate partnerships can extend the reach of our organization. My entire team looks forward to Walmart $5 Days and the opportunity to introduce our mission to new audiences and get reacquainted with some old friends that haven’t visited in awhile.”
