Calling Young Makers!
There is a new Young Maker Workshop series being offered at the Science Center on select weekends specifically for children ages 8-14 who want to design, build, and create. The Young Maker Workshops will highlight various skills and projects in Dr. Dare’s Lab.
These project-based workshops will teach new skills and get kids making. Children and families can work together to build and collaborate. Throughout the year we will hold various projects from circuit building, soldering, Arduino programming, and raspberry pi.
No registration is required, so just plan to arrive at Dr. Dare’s laboratory (located on Level 4) to get a seat for the workshop. These workshops are included with paid admission or membership to the Science Center.
July 19 & 20: Making Simple Machine Automata
Automata are self operating machines. This workshop will show how simple materials like foam, feathers and carboard can be turned into moving mechanical parts like cams, levers and gears.
August 16 & 17: Soldering and Circuitry
Visitors can learn the basics of soldering, which is a skill used in a variety of electronics and circuitry projects. This workshop will require a waiver for all participants.

On June 21 and June 22, Orlando Science Center hosted the next installment in the Young Maker Workshop series. Kids learned the basics of Arduino programming, using this open-source electronics platform to create interactive projects. By programming an Arduino to perform a number of tasks, they were able to power LED lights and servo motors.
Once a month as Maker Faire Orlando approaches, the Science Center is hosting Young Maker Workshops. The idea is to engage your little one in Maker-inspired activities with local professionals, while children and families work together to build and collaborate.
