The Orlando Science Center’s public relations efforts generate awareness for its exhibits, films, programs and events through media coverage as well as enhance its image as a community resource.

Through careful planning and good relationships with local newspapers, TV networks, websites and radio stations, the Orlando Science Center enjoys consistent coverage.

The Orlando Science Center also functions as a reliable resource for area reporters in need of quick story ideas or colorful backgrounds for live reports. Area media often interview guests and staff on issues involving science, technology and current events.

 

Orlando Science Center, OUC Teach 5th Graders about Water Conservation

Partnership Reaches 8,000 students in Orange, Osceola Counties

 

ORLANDO - This school year the Orlando Science Center and OUC-The Reliable One teamed up to deliver an interactive alternative energy and water conservation curriculum to thousands of fifth graders in 58 elementary schools in Orange and Osceola counties. The Alternative Water and Energy Supply; Observation, Methods and Education (A.W.E.S.O.M.E.) Project helps students learn about alternative energy and water conservation and prepare for their first science FCAT with hands-on activities such as making a model aquifer, building a solar-powered car and testing low-flow showerheads and compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) against traditional fixtures.

Saturday, April 3, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

What: Come join us at the Orlando Science Center as we celebrate Easter, the next holiday featured in our special holiday workshop series. This interactive experience will engage you and your preschooler (3-5yo) in Egg-themed activities while exploring science concepts through arts and crafts.

Who: Each participant will take home a certificate, handmade holiday craft, and memories of a day of fun and discovery. The workshop will also include a snack and a story. Afterwards, parents and child are free to explore the hands-on fun waiting for them in the exhibits at the Science Center.

Event Makes a Splash at the Orlando Science Center

Music, Cocktails, Surfers, Drum Circles and More!

Orlando, FL - (June 8, 2010) - Ride the monstrous waves of Tahiti during Orlando Science Center’s Cocktails & Cosmos on Saturday, June 19!  From 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., the event will feature live entertainment and the premiere of The Ultimate Wave Tahiti on the giant screen. Indulge in Downtown Orlando’s most scientifically unique and socially inclined experience with Happy Hour food and drink specials, followed by an evening of music, art, and film.

The Ultimate Wave Tahiti features Florida’s own Kelly Slater on a quest to find the perfect wave. Taking viewers on a journey to the scenic beaches of Tahiti, the film simultaneously exemplifies the contrasting concepts of surfing as a competitive sport and an ancient Polynesian wave-riding art. Directed by Stephen Low, one of the foremost filmmakers in the giant screen industry, The Ultimate Wave Tahiti puts viewers alongside Slater and Tahitian surfing legend Raiman Van Bastolaer as they crush the killer waves of the South Pacific.

Orlando Science Center Provides Title I Students With Tools for Future Success

AT&T donation to OSC

Photo Caption: Orlando Science Center President and CEO JoAnn Newman with AT&T's Judy Spencer, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Commissioner Bill Segal. On behalf of the Orlando Science Center, Newman accepted a $50,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation during the Science Center's Otronicon event. The grant enabled nine Title I middle school classes to attend the event as well as fund 60 scholarships for a digital media academy for teens this summer.

Mission: Nutrition III at the Orlando Science Center

Learn about healthcare careers and medical simulation, Premiere for new “Careers for Life” Exhibit
Saturday, April 17, 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

What: Mission: Nutrition is back for the third year to highlight the important of health and wellness in our everyday lives. This year’s event will continue to emphasize healthcare careers as well as spotlighting advancements in medical technology and patient simulation. Mission: Nutrition III will see the “Rise of the Machines.”

New: The event will also host the premiere of Careers for Life, an interactive exhibit spotlighting growing opportunities in the healthcare field. The exhibit features multiple kiosks with testimonials from actual nurses, therapists, and paramedics. It also uses basic anatomical displays to show the connection between the medical professional and their specialty. The Careers for Life exhibit is funded by a grant from the US Department of Labor, in partnership with Seminole State College and supported by in-kind contributions and assistance from WorkForce Central Florida and the Partners for a Healthy Community.
