Director of Development

Full time benefited position. Provide the leadership role at the Orlando Science Center in the creation of a growing financial base by increasing revenue from corporate organizations.  Working with the Vice President of Development, the Development Director is responsible for Corporate Engagement and will create and execute both short- term and long-term strategies for increasing contributed revenue while building sustainable relationships for OSC.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and execute strategies for enhancing revenue from corporations and corporate foundations for both short and long term success in line with budget and organization goals.  
  • Be creative in developing revenue opportunities that meet the mutual marketing goals of the corporate partner and OSC.  For example, exhibit, event, community accessibility options, naming and/or corporate memberships.   
  • Ensure all corporate partners are being stewarded regularly throughout the year with the aim of building ongoing relationships that sustain the mission.   
  • Research corporate prospects and develop plan to engage targeted organizations for short and long term partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of all sponsorship opportunities for potential partners.
  • Serve as Development Lead for the following events including but not limited to Neanderthal Ball, Cosmic Golf, Science of Wine, Maker Faire. 
  • Insure appropriate and professional presentation materials and implementation of deliverables.
  • Manage and grow volunteer committees (Community Council) in relation to aforementioned special events and advocacy in the community. 
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up with corporate clients for annual and capital campaigns.
  • Participate in the launch and implementation of a successful comprehensive campaign for the long term growth of the Center. 
  • Develop and maintain prospect lists in donor database (Donor Perfect).
  • Stay current on corporate activity in the community to assess viable opportunities for engagement.   
  • Work with internal OSC departments including Finance, Marketing, Visitor Experience, Education and others to ensure fulfillment of Development goals. 


Education:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Non-Profit Management, Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in corporate fundraising and/or business development.  
  • Work with engaging and growing volunteer committees. Three years of management experience, including budgeting and planning.  
  • Knowledge and involvement in the local community.  
  • Previous work experience in a non-profit organization or business development function a plus.  
  • Strong communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills a must.  
  • Prior Event experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems.  
  • Corporate experience a plus. 

 

 

Manager of Member Relations 

Full time benefited position. Responsible for developing and implementing an annual pass marketing plan to meet revenue projections.  Develop and maintain membership database. Effectively market the membership benefits of the Orlando Science Center to all markets. Assist in creating awareness and developing the public image of OSC in the community. Manage all member events and benefits.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage all member events and promotions, member previews, special events, etc.
  • Includes some night and weekend assignments. Collaborate with other departments as needed on these events.
  • Continuously implement market research methods to gather demographic member’s information.
  • A good knowledge of office practices, administration, marketing and customer service skills and techniques.
  • To respond promptly to inquiries from prospective members, members, and the general public by phone, email or in writing and follow-up with an agreed timeframe.
  • To create and update membership and marketing material e.g. letters, new member welcome packs, newsletters, e-bulletins, press releases, fact sheets, membership directories, member listings, member questionnaires and brochures.
  • Aggressively pursue acquisition of new members through marketing, on-site sales, interdepartmental opportunities, promotions, events and other avenues. Responsible for establishing and achieving membership and revenue goals applicable to the department.
  • Manage and grow the Science For All program that awards highly reduced price memberships to underserved families.
  • This includes reviewing and qualifying applicants for new memberships as well as renewals under the program.
  • To interpret membership recruitment and retention statistics and review member research and make recommendations.
  • Develop a peer support network with membership managers in other museums and science centers through ASTC network and other opportunities. Familiar with using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, project management software and web applications including email, e-marketing, s-surveys, e-discussion groups, etc.
  • Able to learn and operate a point of sale system and be available to perform member check-in and membership sales in lobby during high traffic periods.
  • Maintain and nurture relationships with members through phone, email and on-site communications, including contributing content to SCOPE magazine and producing monthly electronic newsletter (Microscope).
  • Strong project management and efficient organizational, written and verbal skills.
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Able to attend events and/or other off-site functions to promote the organization, and to be available some nights and/or weekends for special events.
  • To co-ordinate and action tasks in the membership development and marketing plans.
  • To promote and sell the organizations memberships on-site and off-site. To maintain and update membership records and marketing databases.
  • To conduct member market research in areas such as member benefit analysis, member satisfaction surveys, member needs assessment and competition analysis.
  • Supervise volunteers and other staff as needed.
  • To manage the member renewals process.
  • To maintain a calendar of recruitment and retention activities.
  • To perform routine quality checks on the membership database.
  • Able to travel.
  • A valid Florida driver’s license, maintain a clear driving record, retain driving approval through OSC’s insurance company.
  • Other duties as required.


Supervision Given:

Must work well independently and be very results-driven. Communicate effectively with team members. Must have open availability and will be required to work some nights and weekends.

Qualifications and Education Requirements College Education:
Bachelors degree preferred, applicable professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree. 1-2 years of sales and customer service management experience. At least 1 year’s marketing experience, preferably with a membership organization.

Preferred Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft office applications Customer service, sales or hospitality experience. Event management experience helpful Detail-oriented, organized, flexible, creative

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit or stand for an extended period of type, ability to lift 30 pounds, ability to climb multiple flights of stairs.

 

 

Manager of Operations

Full time benefited position. The Manager of Operations directs the efforts of House Managers and Janitorial Team to meet organizational needs and to enhance the participant experience by utilizing quality assurance guidelines. Will need to communicate museum-wide requests and use available resources to accomplish goals. This position is expected to be on the floor 75% of the shift during public operating hours.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Direct efforts of House Managers, which include but are not limited to scheduling, coaching and training on exhibit and facility start up, shutdown and maintenance.
  • Generate department payroll, annual hours and annual budget requirements.
  • Conduct annual staff training of MSDS, active shooter, and fire safety procedures.
  • Conduct safety/security training of new hires via new hire orientation.
  • Assist in the development of new safety/security procedures in accordance with OSC current needs.
  • OSC site administrator of AED equipment and monthly inspections.
  • Direct efforts of contracted Janitorial Team and communicate immediate needs.
  • Assist in emergency first aid, fire evacuations and submit a monthly Fire Safety Inspection Report.
  • Prevent improper use of exhibits and the physical building.
  • Acting Manager On Duty on assigned days per VP of Operation.
  • Support Shipping and Receiving / Mailroom / Copy Center in the absence of the Clerk.
  • Support other teams within the organization with superior Internal Customer Service.
  • On call for week-end and evening emergencies when not on duty.
  • First responder for after hours Central Monitoring Station alarms.
  • Report all problems or concerns to the VP of Operations.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 – 4 year degree in related field.
  • 3 – 5 years work experience or work experience in Hospitality / Business Management.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 

 

Early Childhood Educator

Part time position. A cheerful, animated, thoughtful and engaging individual is needed to provide fun and quality educational programming for the Science Center’s early learners. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: Engaging and educating families, school groups, campers and teachers about various sciences and early childhood topics with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. The Early Childhood Educator will deliver educational content in one or more of the following ways: classroom instruction on and off museum grounds, large capacity auditorium programming on and off museum grounds, and floor demonstrations. Educators will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in the sciences taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for teaching early childhood workshops, discovery labs, offsite programs, camps, and some weekend events.
  • Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging children, families and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • This position requires individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of audiences of all sizes and delivering basic science instruction to guests of all ages.  
  • Ensure age appropriateness in all programs and alignment with learning and developmental standards.
  • Maintains a safe and secure environment for guests and staff.
  • Keeps current in science and education related to OSC’s content and exhibits.
  • Qualified applicants will demonstrate a willingness to learn.  
  • Availability on Saturdays is required.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with children and guests. Qualified candidates should be degree seeking or hold a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, education, science, psychology, or museum studies preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. Experience working with children or teaching children (age 7 and under) either informally or in a classroom setting.

Preferred Skills:

  • Course work in the field of Early Childhood or Education.
  • Experience developing curriculum for informal education facilities. 
  • Experience in the performing arts or theater experience. 
  • Minimum of one year experience teaching and delivering educational programming in an informal setting (child care facility, museum, zoo).

Preschool Teacher

Full time benefited position. Responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of preschool (3 – 5 yr) children, planning and executing the Early Childhood education program in accordance with the goals, objectives and standards set forth by the Orlando Science Center Preschool in alliance with Early Childhood developmentally appropriate practices, FL Department of Children and Families and “Creative Curriculum” and Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK). Instruct children (3 – 5 yr) in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful individuals related to their peer group, environment and community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A degree (Associate or above) in Child Development, Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten, Primary, or Elementary Education preferred. Exceptional Student Education, Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC – formally National CDA), Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC or formally CDAE), certified National CDA or certified CDAE accepted.
  • FL Department of Children and Families Staff credential – VPK
  • Clear Level 2 Background screening.  May not be in classroom until this is established.
  • FL Department of Children and Families 45 hours Child Care training
  • FL Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK) Education Standards and Emergent Literacy for VPK
  • CPR and Basic First Aid Certification
  • Work experience with children 0 – 8 years old.
  • Excellent communication skills; presentation and public speaking. Reliable, organized, self-starter. Ability to work with little direct supervision Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with people

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Also involved maybe some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of objects, materials or children up to 40 lbs. Sensory requirements are visual perceptions and discrimination, oral communication, and ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.

 

 

Educator FT

Full time benefited position. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: Engaging and educating children in preschool-12th grade about various sciences with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. The Educator/Presenter will deliver educational content in one the following ways: classroom instruction on and off museum grounds, large capacity auditorium programming on and off museum grounds, and floor demonstrations. Educators will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in the sciences taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging students and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Assist with the training of new education staff and seasonal employees.
  • Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • This position requires individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of large audiences and delivering science instruction to guests of all ages.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new content.
  • Qualified applicants will demonstrate a willingness to learn.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:


Qualified candidates should hold a bachelors degree in education, science, or a related field or hold an Associates Degree and seeking a Bachelors degree with experience. A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Skills:

The candidate should have experience teaching either informally or in a classroom. Experience in public speaking and customer service is desirable.

The Educator will deliver educational content in one or more of the following ways: classroom instruction on and off museum grounds, large capacity auditorium programming on and off museum grounds, and floor demonstrations. Educators will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in the sciences taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills.

  • Responsible for teaching discovery labs, offsite programs, scout programs, camps, and overnights.
  • Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging students and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • This position requires individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of audiences of all sizes and delivering science instruction to guests of all ages.

House Manager

Full time benefited position. Work schedule will include afternoon, evening, weekends & some holiday’s. Provide superior customer service while maintaining a safe and secure environment for OSC guests and team members. This position is expected to be on the floor 90% of the shift during public operating hours.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the building as per established procedures.
  • Hourly walk through the facility and parking garage documenting and / or reporting to appropriate parties any needs or concerns.
  • Interact with OSC guests using the Customer First Approach.
  • Monitor daily operation ensuring OSC programs begin on time, front of house positions appropriately staffed and public areas remain clean.
  • Accurately document shift activities in the House Managers log and note exhibit failures, maintenance personnel responding for repair and exhibits on the floor that are tagged.
  • Communicate exhibit failure, facility maintenance challenges and safety concerns to the appropriate parties in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in emergency first aid and fire evacuations.
  • Prevent improper use of exhibits and the physical building.
  • Assist in locating lost children / parent.
  • Monitor crowd density in public areas.
  • Support Shipping and Receiving / Mailroom / Copy Center in the absence of the Clerk.
  • Support other teams within the organization with superior Internal Customer Service.

Work Experience: Some experience in the customer service field.

Physical Requirements: Up to 30 hour work week. Available all hours, and shifts, ability to do a lot standing, walking and climbing stairs. Ability to lift 30 pounds, ability to push/pull a certain amount of weight.

 

 

House Manager/Hospitality

Part time position. Position Summary: Provide superior customer service while maintaining a safe and secure environment for OSC guests and team members. This position is expected to be on the floor 90% of the shift during public operating hours.

  • Communicate exhibit failure, facility maintenance challenges and safety concerns to the Director of Facilities in a timely fashion.

  • Assist in locating lost children / parent.
  • Monitor crowd density in public areas.
  • Support Shipping and Receiving / Mailroom / Copy Center in the absence of the Clerk.

  • Other duties assigned by Director of Facilities and or CFO.

 

Education or Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience: Some experience in the customer service field.

Part time position, weekends required. Assist the Host in facilitating the party including: disbursement of cake, ice cream and beverage, educational programming, science make and take project and general clean up. Have a full understanding of birthday party themes, and the educational component including the science content. Responsible for cleanliness of birthday rooms and the surrounding areas. Be able to work on a consistent basis and fulfill scheduling requirements. Completion of the 10th grade.

 

 

Birthday Party Host

Part time position, weekends required Host and facilitate the party including disbursement of cake, ice cream and beverage, educational programming, science make and take project and general clean up. Have a full understanding of birthday party themes, and the educational component including the science content. Supervise assistants and volunteers working in Birthday Parties to include delegation of responsibilities to assist with the parties, and general customer service related to the birthday parties. Accountable for completion of the financial data sheet for each party and related paper work. Weekly inventory of paper products and additional supplies including a report (if needed) to the Birthday Coordinator. Be able to work on a consistent basis and fulfill scheduling requirements. Completion of the 10th grade, H.S. or Bachelors Degree preferred

 

 

Movie Operator

Part time position. Responsible for operating CineDome and the Digital Adventure Theater automation system, presenting shows and assisting visitors in and out of the CineDome and the Digital Adventure Theatre, including, but not limited to, taking tickets, answering questions, and light administrative work. High School Graduate or equivalent, some college preferred. Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time.

 

 

Guest Services Representative

Part time position. Representatives perform all ticket transactions for the Center as well as help visitors with directions and information about OSC and surrounding areas. Additionally, Guest Services Representatives actively sell and maintain all OSC memberships.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High School
  • Guest Services, Cash Handling, and Computer Experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Will need to stand for long periods of times. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

 

 

Facilitator

Part time position. Must have availability to work a minimum of 3 days. With weekend availability preferred.

Essential Job Functions: Passionately embrace and communicate the mission of OSC ‘Inspire Science Learning for Life’ to science center guests.  This position requires individuals with exemplary guest service skills. Facilitate exhibit halls by answering questions, narrating on the microphone, leading activities and being interactive and engaging. This position will be expected to effectively communicate science concepts and topics through science demonstrations and activities.

EDUCATION: Two year degree in education, science, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE: The candidate should be comfortable approaching guests and speaking in front of a large audience.  Strong communication skills are required.  Hospitality or customer service experience is desirable.

REQUIRED SKILLS: A valid Florida driver’s license is required

PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience working in museums or in an informal education setting is preferred. Experience performing Improv and/or theater background is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand for long periods and be able to lift 30 lbs.
