Revamped Theater Features Cutting-Edge 3D Technology, Hollywood Releases, 4K Resolution, New Seating & Flooring
ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2012) – The Orlando Science Center brings Hollywood magic and cutting-edge technology to its visitors this week when it unveils its new Digital Adventure Theater on Friday, Dec. 14. Guests will see educational documentaries and Hollywood features all in stunning, immersive 3D and ultra high definition 4K resolution.
Originally built for live programming and presentations, the 226-seat theater has been revamped to exhibit digital content and is one of only a handful of theaters in the Orlando area that features a 4K resolution projection system – capable of producing an image nearly four times the quality of standard high definition.

After-School STEM Workshops Receive AT&T Contribution
Orlando Science Center Provides Title I Students with Tools for Future Success
The AT&T Foundation awarded a $25,000 grant to the Orlando Science Center to support new “Destination: STEM” After-School Workshops for 50 underserved Orange County middle school students. Orlando Science Center will develop and present forty 90-minute hands-on workshops that introduce science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines and career paths, focusing on engineering and modeling/simulation.
These fields were chosen because the Central Florida region is a hub for technology-based industries and innovation. Metro Orlando is the 26th largest metropolitan area in the United States and boasts a gross domestic product of more than $100 billion dollars.
“AT&T and the Orlando Science Center have teamed up to bring engineering and simulation activities as well as career options in science and engineering fields to middle schoolers,” said JoAnn Newman, President and CEO of the Orlando Science Center. “Learning about STEM and the opportunities that exist will not only help today’s youth, but also our country’s future.”

ORLANDO, FL (August 28, 2012) - With media headlines repeatedly warning us of debris falling from the skies, orbital debris – or “space junk” – has finally risen to the forefront of social consciousness. But what is space junk, how did it get there and just how serious is the problem?
On Saturday, September 8, discover the answers to these questions when Space Junk premieres in the Dr. Phillips CineDome at the Orlando Science Center. Its premiere marks the return of Cocktails and Cosmos, the Science Center’s social event where it opens its doors to an adults-only crowd for a night of entertainment and discovery. Following premiere screenings that evening, Space Junk will become part of the daily schedule in the Dr. Phillips CineDome on September 10. It will be screening at the Science Center through February 2013.
Narrated by Academy Award® Nominee Tom Wilkinson, Space Junk is he first movie to explore the exponentially expanding ring of debris that threatens the safety of our planet’s orbits. Harnessing the magical imagery of the giant screen, director Melissa Butts takes us soaring – from the stunning depths of Meteor Crater to an unprecedented view of our increasingly crowded orbits, 22,000 miles above earth.

Enjoy All The Orlando Science Center Has To Offer For Only $5 Thanks To The Walmart Foundation
Sunday, August 26 – 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
ORLANDO, Fla. (August 13, 2012) – The Orlando Science Center, in partnership with the Walmart Foundation, has announced the next Walmart $5 Day will be August 26. On that day, guests can enjoy exhibits, giant screen films and live programs for the significantly discounted price of $5. General admission fees are usually $17 for adults and $12 for kids (ages 3-11). For many, this event presents the opportunity to experience the Science Center for the first time.
“Walmart is dedicated to giving back to the communities where our employees and customers work and play, said Steven Daniel, Walmart Market Manager for Central Florida. “Walmart $5 Day is special to us because it provides families a very fun and engaging activity while, at the same time, encourages learning and discovery.”
Enjoy all the Science Center has to offer including live swamp critters in NatureWorks, dinosaur fossil replicas in DinoDigs and pinewood derby races in Science Park. And for the littlest learners, KidsTown enables preschool-aged children to explore their world in a town designed just for them. Hands-on interactives include an automotive garage and an orange juice processing plant that invites the joyful, creative play that is so important to the cognitive development of young children. And open all day is Dr. Dare’s Lab; become a scientist for the day and perform hands-on experiments under the guidance of a trained instructor.

Mr. Armstrong’s firm is dedicated to utilizing PC-based game technology in an advanced distributed-learning environment. A graduate of Valencia College and the University of Central Florida, he’s currently developing new learning technologies for war fighters and first responders. He was named as a 2007 and 2009 finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year from Ernst and Young for the state of Florida. In 2010, he was awarded the SBA Region, State and National Small Business Person of the Year award.

Ms. Brady was named one of Orlando Magazine’s Top 50 Most Powerful People in 2011 for the third year in a row. A member of the Public Relations Society of America, she handles reputation management as well as corporate and crisis communications at the firm she opened in 2010. She previously spent five years as Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations with Bright House Networks, Central Florida Division.
