First Saturday of every month, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Safely gaze upon the closest star to our home planet - the Sun. Our astronomers take aim at the sun to reveal the secrets hidden behind its glare. Take a peek at the Sun’s surface to see what kind of day the sun is having. Sometimes the surface is placid and serene but more often than not, it is boiling with sunspots and solar flares.

Please check the Science Live! Calendar for scheduled dates.

Crosby Observatory is included in Orlando Science Center Admission.

On September 20 the Orlando Science Center premiered the Bats: Myths and Mysteries traveling exhibit. Members got a first glance of the creatures from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in their very own exclusive preview. They had an up-close look at 25 live bats while learning fun facts about these crepuscular creatures.

Guests also got the chance to make their own paper bats to take home and put on display. The Organization for Bats Conservation were on-site sharing their knowledge on how to enjoy our bat friends in the wild. If you didn't get a chance to visit this interactive exhibit yet, come check it out check before it flies away.

Celebrating innovation, invention, and DIY, Orlando Science Center hosts the third annual Maker Faire Orlando!

This community-based learning event aims to inspire the public through do-it-yourself science, technology and art; hands-on workshops; panels; and more. The 2014 event featured more than 200 one-of-a- kind projects from local Makers.

Makers are DIY-enthusiasts who demonstrate their creativity and knowledge through personal creations. They come from all ages and backgrounds, ranging from techies to crafters to scientists to garage tinkerers. Each shares a common passion for innovation and creativity, as well as an educational spirit to inspire and encourage new Makers.

Mark DeMaio, local music enthusiast, led our youngest members in a KidsTown jam session at September's Member Monday. Children danced while playing drums, tambourines, shakers and other instruments. The event also included a musical parade around the exhibit hall and a coloring activity.

We invite you to join us at our next Member Monday on Monday, October 13 from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Spend one hour in our newest exhibition, Bats: Myths and Mysteries, and participate in a special craft and activity. Kick off the autumn season by getting an up-close and-personal look at the real, live bats who will be temporarily inhabiting the Science Center.

Also, Nemours Brightstart! will offer FREE reading readiness screenings for three, four and five-year-olds during Member Monday. Screenings typically last five to 10 minutes and are followed by a discussion about your child's results. For more information on screenings or to schedule an appointment, please contact Nemours BrightStart! at 407.650.7731.
