Maker Faire Orlando
at Orlando Science Center

Saturday & Sunday, September 12 & 13, 2015

Maker Faire Orlando is an annual community-organized, family-friendly celebration featuring local do-it-yourself science and technology, art, rockets, robots, crafts, music, hands-on-activities, and more. It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning.

The individuals behind these exhibits are known as “Makers” and they range from tech-enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. Makers are of all ages and come from many backgrounds. They all share a love for innovation and creativity, as well as an educational spirit to inspire and encourage new Makers. Maker Faire Orlando features displays and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.

Saturday & Sunday

September 12 & 13

The greatest show and tell on Earth, Maker Faire Orlando is a family-friendly celebration featuring local DIY science, art, rockets, robots, crafts, hands-on activities and more. A two-day festival where inventors, artists, scientists and tinkerers collide. It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. With something for everyone, it’s one weekend you won’t want to miss.

The first Maker Faire, organized by the editors of MAKE magazine, started in 2006 in San Mateo, California. Branching off from the flagship Faires in the Bay Area and New York City are community-driven “Mini” Maker Faires. Last year, Orlando was recognized as a “featured” Maker Faire and was expanded to a two-day extravaganza. Orlando shares this distinction with only 14 other Featured Maker Faires worldwide in cities like Tokyo, Paris, Atlanta and Rome. This year, the can’t-miss event has grown even larger and will extend from the Science Center to the Orlando Museum of Art and include food trucks!

Reserve your Maker Faire Orlando tickets online and be entered for a chance to win a Deltamaker 3D printer package worth over $2,500.

Last year you helped us reach "Featured" Maker Faire status and everyone, even the White House, has noticed how much Orlandoans love Maker Faire Orlando!

Orlando Science Center was invited to the White House to participate in a kick-off event for the National Week of Making. The event included a broad range of participants from government, industry, nonprofits, foundations, and local communities, and highlighted new steps that federal agencies and others are taking in response to President Obama’s call to action to create a "Nation of Makers."

Our own Angella van Gelder, director of special events, represented Orlando Science Center at the event as well as attended the National Maker Faire in Washington, D.C.

We were honored to represent local Makers at the White House and can't wait to show you what this year has in store: more exhibits, more crazy creations, and more Makers! Mark your calendars for Maker Faire Orlando 2015 on September 12–13.

At the first Young Maker Workshop of 2015 guests created their own wearable tech in the form of e-textiles!

Also known as electronic textiles, smart textiles or smart fabrics, e-textiles are fabrics that enable digital components and electronics to be embedded in them. Many intelligent clothing, smart clothing, wearable technology and wearable computing projects involve the use of e-textiles.

Using conductive string, fabric, LED lights and batteries, guests fashioned a light-up cuff bracelet to wear themselves or to give to their valentine.
