Saturday, October 16, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
See how you can start erasing your carbon footprint

ORLANDO, FL - October 08, 2010 - Join the Green Revolution at Orlando Science Center on Saturday, October 16. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., exhibits, seminars, workshops, speakers, films and more will highlight the fast-developing world of clean, renewable energy, recycling and energy efficient technology. Activities and displays on the various levels of the Science Center will help educate and provide examples of alternative behaviors and resources to live a “greener” life. Greenovations is presented by OUC - The Reliable One with support from many community partners.

Targeted at the residential energy consumer, Greenovations will provide hands-on activities for children and adults that have an environmental awareness focus. For example, have fun and learn about the importance of recycling while creating artwork and fashion from recycled plastics or discover your direct environmental impact by measuring your carbon footprint. There will also be tours of the Science Center’s new state-of-the-art eco-friendly HVAC system and its array of 144 solar panels. These efforts are part of the Science Center’s commitment to increase its energy efficiency, decrease operational costs and help serve as a community leader in the use of sustainable technologies.

Spend quality time with the family during this day of science fun and discovery as you learn how to be kinder to Mother Earth. Displays will also provide opportunities to learn about recycling, water conservation, and solar energy. Segway of Central Florida will also be onsite giving live demonstrations for guests. Through demonstrations, attendees will learn about the technology of zero-emission transportation, its uses, and how Segways work. In addition to guest speakers on topics ranging from taming light pollution to displays of electric cars, guests will enjoy experiencing the Science Center’s ongoing lineup of exhibits like the new earth and space science display, Our Planet, Our Universe, and classic favorites like KidsTown, Science Park and NatureWorks.

If you are you looking to go beyond traditional “green” practices, the newest sustainable living trends can also be found. Come stop by NatureWorks to learn about vermicomposting, a technique that uses several different species of worms to break down kitchen and garden scraps, as well as cardboard boxes and newspapers. Our “Worm Lady” will address the importance of worms, how they help compost waste and how you can build your own worm box!

Thanks to the Walmart Foundation, admission that day will be $5 for everyone and will include access to all the Greenovations activities as well as all the Science Center’s exhibits and giant screen films. Additional partners and sponsors of Greenovations include Kohler, Ferguson, the Florida Renewable Energy Association, Azur Solar, City of Orlando, IKEA, Nova Charge, Orange County/CFEEA, Segway, Superior Solar and Sybac Solar.
