What’s New at OSC

September is all about optics and light at the Science Center! Explore the amazing phenomenon of light by learning how different animals in NatureWorks see; immersing yourself in light and color in KidsTown; and experimenting with lasers, mirrors, and lenses in Dr. Dare’s Lab.

 

Bank of America Museums on Us Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, September 2 & 3
On the first full weekend of every month, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders enjoy free admission to Orlando Science Center. Cardholders will also receive 10 percent off a membership if they purchase on these two days. These deals apply to the cardholder only and do not include guests.

 

Member Monday

9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, September 4
On Member Monday, join us for special activities in KidsTown, open to OSC members only, an hour before the museum opens to the public! Member Guest pass are accepted for Member Mondays, so bring your friends!

 

Homeschool Program

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, September 4
Join us monthly during the school year for a hands-on STEM workshop for homeschooled students, designed for your student’s grade level. The program also includes an educational film and time to explore our exhibit halls. Advance registration is recommended to secure your place.

 

Little Explorers: Do You Hear What I Hear?

Mondays, September 4, 11 & 18
Or Tuesdays, September 5, 12 & 19

These 45-minute workshops are designed for children 18 to 36 months with an accompanying adult. We will actively explore diverse topics in science through hands-on science activities, experiments, songs, movement and more. Come join us in this unique opportunity for you and your toddler to learn and grow together as you explore the wonders of the science world! Registration required.

Little Learners: Science of Sound

Thursdays, September 7, 14 & 21

These 60-minute workshops are designed for children 3-5 years with an accompanying adult. We will actively explore diverse topics in science through hands-on science activities, experiments, songs, movement and more. Come join us in this unique opportunity for you and your preschooler to learn and grow together as you explore the wonders of the science world! Registration required.

 

Pint-Sized Science – Senses: Smell & Taste

Friday, September 8
Pint-Sized Science is a drop-off program designed for children ages 3-5 to explore science with their friends. During this three-hour program, they will discover and learn about a range of science topics, from bubbles to physics to machines and more! They will be guided through simple lessons accompanied by hands-on activities and science-infused play. Registration required.

 

Solar Viewing

3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 9
Get a more in-depth look at the closest star to the Earth — our sun! After checking out the sun, learn about the telescopes that let us explore the solar system. Please remember that observing outer space requires good weather here on Earth.

 

Young Maker Workshops: Upcycled T-Shirt Plant Hangers

11:30, 1:30 & 3:00 Saturday and Sunday, September 8 & 9

We will be making simple plant hangers out of recycled t-shirt yarn. Guests are welcome to bring their own t-shirts or can work with the t-shirts provided at the workshop.

This workshop is recommended for guests ages 8 and up. Guests under 12 must bring an adult. Workshops last 30 to 40 minutes and space is limited. Admittance is on a first come, first served basis.

 

Pirate Week

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, September 14 through Sunday, September 17
Our dastardly buccaneers welcome you into their world for Pirate Week. In addition to pirate crafts, games, songs and prizes in KidsTown, you’ll meet some of the most wretched crews ever to sail the seas! On Saturday, join us for building-wide Pirate Day, an event for all ages.

 

Pint-Sized Science – States of Matter

Friday, September 22

Playing with Light Exhibit Opens

Saturday, September 23
Shed light on physics and optics when you visit Playing with Light, the traveling exhibit making its way to Orlando Science Center this fall! Playing with Light features 22 immersive stations that use lasers, mirrors and more to put the power of light in your hands.

 

Science Saturdays: Illuminating Science

10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23
Science Saturdays are 90-minute workshops for preschool children and an accompanying adult. Together, come explore, experiment and get elbow-deep in the science of a range of themes that might not seem so “sciency” on the surface! Registration required.

Enjoy four floors of interactive exhibits, giant-screen films, live experiences, and everything else you love about the Science Center for just $10 per person! $10 Day is powered by Duke Energy.
