What’s New at OSC

Join us for Aviation Month in November for flight-themed demonstrations and activities! Try some aviation-themed STEM Challenges at the Paper Glider and Balance Challenge exhibits. Finally, celebrate ‘fall’ with our classic Egg Drop Challenge. Do you dare to drop an egg from a 1-story height?

 

Traveling Exhibit: Playing with Light

Open now through January 3
Shed light on physics and optics when you visit Playing with Light! Playing with Light features 22 immersive stations that use lasers, mirrors and more to put the power of light in your hands.

 

Little Explorers: Adventures in Story Time

Mondays: October 30, November 6 & 13
Or Tuesdays: October 31, November 7 & 14

These 45-minute workshops are designed for children 18 to 36 months old, with an accompanying adult. We will actively explore diverse topics in science through hands-on science activities, experiments, songs, movement and more. Come join us in this unique opportunity for you and your toddler to learn and grow together as you explore the wonders of the science world! Registration required.

 

Open for 1st Wednesdays

Wednesday, November 1
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Orlando Science Center is closed most Wednesdays during the school year, but we’re now open the first Wednesday of every month for guests to enjoy their favorite exhibits in a quieter setting! The building will be open to the general public, but we do not book any field trips on 1st Wednesdays.

 

Little Learners: Animal Adaptations 

Thursdays: November 2, 9 & 16
These 60-minute workshops are designed for children 3-5 years with an accompanying adult. We will actively explore diverse topics in science through hands-on science activities, experiments, songs, movement and more. Come join us in this unique opportunity for you and your preschooler to learn and grow together as you explore the wonders of the science world! Registration required.

 

Pint-Sized Science Drop-Off Program: World of Weather

Friday, November 3
9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Pint-Sized Science is a drop-off program designed for children ages 3-5 to explore science with their friends. During this three-hour program, they will discover and learn about a range of science topics, from bubbles to physics to machines and more! They will be guided through simple lessons accompanied by hands-on activities and science-infused play. Registration required.

 

Bank of America Museums on Us Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, November 4 & 5
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On the first full weekend of every month, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders enjoy free admission to Orlando Science Center. Cardholders will also receive 10 percent off a membership if they purchase on these two days. These deals apply to the cardholder only and do not include guests.

 

Homeschool Program

Monday, November 6
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join us monthly during the school year for a hands-on STEM workshop for homeschooled students, designed for your student’s grade level. The program also includes an educational film and time to explore our exhibit halls. Advance registration is recommended to secure your place.

 

Veterans Day Discounts 

Monday, November 6 – Sunday, November 19
In honor of our vets, veterans and active military personnel with military ID will receive free admission and their attending family members will receive 50% off admission, from Nov. 6 through Nov. 19.

Star-Studded Evenings Begin 

Friday and Saturday, November 10 & 11
5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays through Feb. 24
Learn a little more about our place in outer space through the Crosby Observatory, weather permitting. Our 10″ Byers refracting telescope is used to look at various celestial objects. Check out our Hollywood films schedule and catch a movie while you’re here!

Please note that exhibits are closed during Star-Studded Evenings.

 

Science Saturdays: Fly Into Science

Saturday, November 11
10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Science Saturdays are 90-minute workshops for preschool children and an accompanying adult. Together, come explore, experiment and get elbow-deep in the science of a range of themes that might not seem so “sciency” on the surface! Registration required.

 

Young Maker Workshops: Paper Kites

Saturday and Sunday, November 11 & 12
11:30, 1:30 & 3:00
Learn about the history of aviation and kitemaking! Your imagination will soar as you build your own kite, and with weather permitting, fly the kite in Loch Haven Park after the workshop.

This workshop is recommended for guests ages 8 and up. Guests under 12 must bring an adult. Workshops last 30 to 40 minutes and space is limited. Admittance is on a first come, first served basis.

 

Veterans Day Ceremony 

Saturday, November 11
2 p.m.
In honor of our vets, a wreath laying ceremony will be held at Red Tails Monument  just outside of Orlando Science Center in Loch Haven Park, in partnership with Vision of Flight. A Red Tail pilot will be in attendance, and a bugler will honor fallen heroes with “Taps.”

This ceremony is made possible by Lockheed Martin and does not require admission to the Science Center.

 

Solar Viewing

Saturday, November 11
3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Head up to the Crosby Observatory and get a more in-depth look at the closest star to the Earth — our sun! After checking out the sun, learn about the telescopes that let us explore the solar system. Please remember that observing outer space requires good weather here on Earth.

 

Sensory Sunday

Sunday, November 12
9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The Orlando Science Center is becoming more accessible by providing new sensory-friendly experiences on select Sunday mornings. Visit select exhibit halls at quieter volume settings with more light. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a movie with softer volume and more ambient light in our theater.

 

Member Monday

Monday, November 13
9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

On Member Monday, join us for special activities in KidsTown, open to OSC members only, an hour before the museum opens to the public. Member Guest Passes are accepted for Member Mondays, so bring your friends along!

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Give your child a productive and fun way to spend their time off from school with a program that offers students in grades K through 6 the chance to learn more about STEM in an exciting, interactive environment. Register early to secure your spot!

NEW Holiday Exhibition: Gingerbread Lane Opens! 

Friday, November 24 – Sunday, January 7, 2018
Take a stroll down Gingerbread Lane along the rows of intricate houses and other structures built entirely out of edible materials by New York chef Jon Lovitch. Marvel at hundreds of pounds of frosting and gingerbread while enjoying the bright and festive winter wonderland atmosphere!
