What’s New at OSC

Orlando Science Center is the place to be this winter season!  December will feature cool crafts and holiday activities for you to make and share with your loved ones.  Chill out with our Cool Science show, create instant snow, tinker with holiday light circuit boards, and enjoy other fun winter-themed experiments in Dr. Dare’s Laboratory.

 

NEW Holiday Exhibition: Gingerbread Lane

Open now through January 7
Take a stroll down Gingerbread Lane to view houses and other structures built entirely out of edible materials by New York chef Jon Lovitch. Marvel at hundreds of pounds of frosting and gingerbread while enjoying the bright and festive winter wonderland atmosphere!

 

Traveling Exhibit: Playing with Light

Open now through January 3
Shed light on physics and optics when you visit our current traveling exhibit, Playing with Light! Playing with Light features 22 immersive stations that use lasers, mirrors and more to put the power of light in your hands.

 

Star-Studded Evenings 

Fridays & Saturdays through Feb. 24
5 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
Learn a little more about our place in outer space through the Crosby Observatory, weather permitting. Our 10″ Byers refracting telescope is used to look at various celestial objects. Check out our Hollywood films schedule and catch a movie while you’re here!

Please note that exhibits are closed during Star-Studded Evenings.

 

Pint-Sized Science Drop-Off Program: Sun & Stars

Friday, December 1
9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Pint-Sized Science is a drop-off program designed for children ages 3-5 to explore science with their friends. During this three-hour program, they will discover and learn about a range of science topics, from bubbles to physics to machines and more! They will be guided through simple lessons accompanied by hands-on activities and science-infused play. Registration required.

 

Bank of America Museums on Us Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, December 2 & 3
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On the first full weekend of every month, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders enjoy free admission to Orlando Science Center. Cardholders will also receive 10 percent off a membership if they purchase on these two days. These deals apply to the cardholder only and do not include guests.

 

Homeschool Program

Monday, December 4
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join us monthly during the school year for a hands-on STEM workshop for homeschooled students, designed for your student’s grade level. The program also includes an educational film and time to explore our exhibit halls. Advance registration is recommended to secure your place.

 

Little Explorers: Out of This World

Mondays,  November 27, December 4 & 11
Or Tuesdays, November 28, December 5 & 12

These 45-minute workshops are designed for children 18 to 36 months with an accompanying adult. We will actively explore diverse topics in science through hands-on science activities, experiments, songs, movement and more. Come join us in this unique opportunity for you and your toddler to learn and grow together as you explore the wonders of the science world! Registration required.

 

Open for 1st Wednesdays

Wednesday, December 6
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Orlando Science Center is closed most Wednesdays during the school year, but we’re now open the first Wednesday of every month for guests to enjoy their favorite exhibits in a quieter setting! The building will be open to the general public, but we do not book any field trips on 1st Wednesdays.

 

Little Learners: Fun with Physics 

Thursdays, November 30, December 7 & 14
These 60-minute workshops are designed for children 3-5 years with an accompanying adult. We will actively explore diverse topics in science through hands-on science activities, experiments, songs, movement and more. Come join us in this unique opportunity for you and your preschooler to learn and grow together as you explore the wonders of the science world! Registration required.

 

Young Maker Workshops: Holiday Edition

Saturday and Sunday, December 9 & 10
11:30, 1:30 & 3:00
This month, join us for a very special holiday edition of this popular event! Practice the skills you need to build a gingerbread house. You’ll learn how to make and pipe icing, and how to put walls together to build your house. At the end, you’ll go home with a recipe for scrumptious gingerbread and a template to help you design your structure!

This workshop is recommended for guests ages 8 and up. Guests under 12 must bring an adult. Workshops last 30 to 40 minutes and space is limited. Admittance is on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Solar Viewing

Saturday, December 9
3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Head up to the Crosby Observatory and get a more in-depth look at the closest star to the Earth — our sun! After checking out the sun, learn about the telescopes that let us explore the solar system. Please remember that observing outer space requires good weather here on Earth.

 

Member Monday

Monday, December 11
9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

On Member Monday, join us for special activities in KidsTown, open to OSC members only, an hour before the museum opens to the public. Member Guest Passes are accepted for Member Mondays, so bring your friends along!

Science Saturdays: Frozen Wonders

Science Saturdays are 90-minute workshops for preschool children and an accompanying adult. Together, come explore, experiment and get elbow-deep in the science of a range of themes that might not seem so “sciency” on the surface! Registration required.

 

School Break Camp

Friday, December 22
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Give your child a productive and fun way to spend their time off from school with a program that offers students in grades K through 6 the chance to learn more about STEM in an exciting, interactive environment. Register early to secure your spot!

 

CLOSED for Holiday

Sunday & Monday, December 24 & 25
The Science Center will be closed for the holiday so staff members and volunteers can spend time with their families. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

Celebrate the new year early with Orlando Science Center! This festive and fun event is full of fun activities and early enough that even the little ones can stay awake to enjoy the countdown to noon! There will also be special activities in KidsTown so you can learn how children of different cultures around the world celebrate the New Year.
