The mission of Engineering is Elementary is to foster engineering and technological literacy among ALL elementary-aged children.

Engineering is Elementary (EiE) is a nationally recognized and disseminated program developed by the Boston Museum of Science. The EiE program partners lessons in engineering with science curricula already in place in elementary schools. EiE materials make engineering fun and engaging for students by introducing them to children from a variety of cultures and backgrounds whose facing real world problems. Using engineering principles, students then work in teams to apply their knowledge of science and mathematics, and use their inquiry and problem-solving skills to design, create and improve possible solutions.

EiE has reached nearly 5 million students and more than 65,000 teachers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The curriculum includes 20 units covering challenges from the design of water filters and parachutes to how to clean up an oil spill. Engineering is Elementary has been proven to increase students’ interest in and confidence about engineering. EiE’s 20 units present fun, engaging engineering challenges that allow students to apply science knowledge.
