Orlando Science Center Early Childhood Teacher Professional Development offers hands-on and minds-on trainings designed to increase educators’ STEM literacy and ability to implement STEM activities with younger learners. The Science Center collaborates with educators to help tomorrow’s innovators develop strong 21st-century skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving that they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.


Igniting the STEM Spark: STEM in Early Childhood – 6 Hour Workshop

Participants of this training will understand the essential components of STEM teaching and learning through hands-on participation. Participants will explore STEM activities first-hand that can be successfully utilized in the preschool classroom setting – including during circle time, outdoor play, transition time, story time, and lesson time. Participants will gain practical application skills that can be used immediately in an informal and formal educational setting. Participants will be introduced to effective questioning and how to utilize it during all activities throughout their school days.*

Price: $175 per participant

*Price includes 1 Teacher Guide binder per participant


Pathways to STEM + Teaching Topic – 6 Hour Workshop

Participants will learn how to introduce the scientific inquiry process to their children, and how to guide them through the process towards discovering that they themselves are scientists. Participants will be given tools to ignite children’s curiosity through each step of the process. In addition, the center/school may choose one of the following teaching topics to be covered in depth during the training. Participants will explore the topics as a student, and then break down how it uses The Scientific Inquiry Process, and how they can use the same techniques to teach this topic in their classroom.*

Choose one of the following:

1. PHYSICAL SCIENCE
States of Matter, Magnets, Energy (Music), Weights and Measure

2. HABITATS
Ocean, Desert, Rain Forest, Your Backyard (Florida’s Swamps/Ponds)

3. EARTH AND SPACE
Earth, Sun And Stars, The Moon, Weather

Price: $175 per participant
