Call for Artist to Create Permanent Installation at OSC

Orlando Science Center is searching for a local artist to create a permanent wall installation. The installation will repurpose approximately 1,300 origami hearts to honor the memory of the victims of the 2016 Pulse nightclub tragedy, while also representing the Science Center’s mission and values.

The paper hearts were originally collected as part of a community arts project. Guests of the Science Center were asked to write a message answering the prompt: “What does love mean to you?” and fold the message into a heart. The hearts were hung in the Science Center’s bridge entrance in fall 2016, and the installation was called “The Love Bridge.”

Recently, the paper hearts were taken down and replaced with more a more durable type of heart on the bridge. But we would like to save the original paper hearts and display them in a new and creative way, which is why we need you, artists!

Artists must be based in Central Florida. The deadline for submissions is January 5, 2018.

For more details, please download the Call for Artists package below. To apply, submit the Artist Entry Form included in this package and other required documents to skatz@osc.org.
